{love this | vendor spotlight | nunn better design| fashion stylist}

I am excited to announce a new part of our 'Love This' feature with our first spotlight being fashion stylist, Jen Nunn-Iwai of Nunn Better Design, who also happens to be a good friend of mine! She started her career out as a Graphic Designer after graduating with a degree from FIDM in 2002. About two years ago, she decided to pursue her passion for fashion in becoming a Fashion Stylist. I have always admired her fashion sense and helpful styling tips. I was thrilled when I heard that she had decided to follow her dreams and true calling of become a Stylist.

“This job is a lot of fun and hard work, with plenty of rewards and excitement along the way. The best part about my job is when I get to see my clients' faces after we've put the final look on them and they let off this radiant, confident glow... it's just amazing! ”

Jen stumbled into her career as a Fashion Stylist, when one of her cousin's mentioned she knew of a Celebrity Fashion Stylist that was looking for an intern. "My Cousin had been telling me for years that I should be a stylist and I had been thinking about trying it out but the timing was never right. Luckily when she asked me about the internship with the Stylist, there wasn't a more prefect time." After interning for the Celebrity Fashion Stylist, Jen decided that she wanted to gain more experience in the Fashion Industry and headed out to New York City, where she worked at Halston in the PR department as an Assistant Sample Coordinator. She then decided to move back to Los Angeles and started assisting another Celebrity Fashion stylist where she styled for Red Carpet events, Editorial photo shoots, Movie Press Tours, and did some Personal Shopping for clients. After working and assisting other Stylist, Jen finally decided to branch out and begin styling her own clients.

When asked about her personal style, “It's all over the place!” Jen laughs “I'm very versatile with my style. I grew up more of a tomboy than a girlie-girl but my style has gown and matured over the years. I'm definitely more girlie now days but deep down the tomboy is still there. Which gives me more edginess to my style. Somedays l feel like being over the top girlie and other days comfortable casual and/or hip hop tomboy look, it just depends on my mood!” No matter what mood Jen's in and whatever she decides to wear, she's always well put together and look's like she is ready to hit the runway with her love for layers and accessories! We also asked Jen to name her favorite designers but she had a hard time choosing because she said "every designer has a different aesthetic and in most cases I'll only like a few pieces from a certain designer's collection. Designers change the "feel" of their collection every season, so I won't always like what that designer comes out with for the season.” But she says if I had to choose a few designers that are consistently on her 'love' list “it would have to be Lanvin, Oscar de la renta, J. Mendel and Marchesa for evening wear and Dsquared2, Jason Wu, Louis Vuitton and Nina Ricci for everyday wear." For more affordable attire Jen's favorite shopping spots are H&M, Zara and Target. "You can always look like a million bucks without actually spending it... it's all in how you put things together!"

Jen styles for photo shoots, weddings, events, editorial, red carpet, personal shopping, and just about anything else you can think of. She loves working with clients who are open to trying things that they normally wouldn’t, "you never know if you’ll like it until you try it!" and when styling she says the most important thing is to “Keep the clients body shape in mind. Garments fit differently on different body types and if I don't know my clients body type I could pull a whole rack of items that's completely wrong for them.”

With Jen's personal insight into her clients, matched with her knowledge of how to pair things together makes Jen stand out in the Fashion Styling world. “I like to be versatile. I don’t have to stick to styles that I would personally wear and/or love. I enjoy making my client comfortable by adding those little finishing touches to help refine my clients own personal style.”
